Kids in Humboldt are going to see more big improvements to the playground at St. Dominic School.

In March, the St. Dominic School Community Council held the Dueling Piano Gala with Scotiabank sponsoring the event and matching ticket sales.

Branch Manager Carl Eckl was on hand Thursday to present a cheque to the SCC for $5,000.

Those funds were then turned over to school's playground committee, says Jenica Moen, Gala Chair, and a member of the SCC.

"The Gala was one of our larger events that we've done. In this particular case, the funds are going to be given to our playground committee so we can add to our existing playground structure."

A total of $23,931.57 was given to the playground committee, which will support new equipment, according to teacher and committee member, Celeste Leray-Leicht.

"With this money received, we will put it towards adding new playground equipment."

Right now, they are in the process of three phases to fully upgrade the grounds. Leray-Leicht added that they have already finished one of those steps.

"Our first phase was completing our outdoor classroom, which we've achieved. In this phase right now, we are trying to add playground structures. We made a great addition to our playground last year by adding swings and a climbing structure and some tether balls."

Moen notes that having more equipment will benefit not only students at the school, but the entire community for leisure activity

"I think having community involvement is very important. Especially in terms of having the playground structure. It's not only for our kids at St. Dominic School, but for the entire community. We definitely saw that there was a need and we wanted to be able to help out in any way we can."
