Firefighters in St. Brieux are exchanging their fire suits for formal clothing on Saturday night.

The fire department is hosting their 1st Annual Fireman's Ball at the St. Brieux Community Hall.

"It's a fundraiser and honours night. We have supper, a silent auction and a dance. The fundraising portion of the event is to raise money for new personal protective equipment," said Fire Chief Lee Brockman.

Brockman added that whenever they are able to help chip in with expenses through fundraisers, it benefits everyone.

"We are funded by the Town of St. Brieux, as well as the RM's of Three Lakes and Lake Lenore. They do a really good job of paying our annual bills and looking after bigger capital works that we have," he explained. "Anytime we can raise money on our own without having to get money from the municipality, it is a good thing."

While service calls do vary, Brockman explained the zone that the department covers.

"We do about ten miles north of town and then almost as far as Lake Lenore. We go as far west as Basin Lake. East we are a little shallower, because Naicam is right there," he said. "We go further for motor vehicle accidents."

Tickets for the ball are $25. The evening will begin at 6:00pm and feature a silent auction. More information can be obtained by contacting Brockman at 306-921-7831.
