Health and wellness was the focus today at the Caleb Village Residences in Humboldt. The retirement living residence hosted its first Health and Wellness Show for its residents and the general public.

The show organizer, Tracey Ross, of Caleb Village, explains the intention in hosting this type of event at Caleb,

"We are bringing different companies into our building that will give our residents an idea of what's available out there."

Vendors featured at the show included companies involved in natural health, hearing, exercise, walker repairs, adaptive-wear clothing and reflexology and more.

Ross adds that the goal of the show is to promote longevity through healthy practices, and says the show offers "Ways to keep healthy and well. We want (the residents) to live a long and happy life. We have one resident that is 101, so obviously they're doing very good on their own, but this just gives them an extra little boost."

Ross hopes residents are encouraged to learn more about ways to stay healthy and fit. The goal of the show is "to get the information out there... to live longer; to live longer healthily. Maybe some ways they didn't know before. That's very important in today's day and age: There are ways to stay fit longer, and these are the ways," says Ross.

An advantage of hosting this type of show within the walls of the residence is the convenience factor. Ross says the show is a "convenient way to bring health and wellness information to residents without them having to step foot outside."

A resounding success according to its attendees, Ross points out, "This is the first time that we've actually had a show (about health and wellness), and due to the residents and what they're saying, I think this is something we'll do again, for sure!"
