Saskatchewan's provincial parks officially open for the season on Thursday.

Some parks may have reduced services at the beginning of the season.

According to Mary-Anne Wihak of the parks department, some might have boil water advisories.

"Often, in the early parts of the season, the ground has just thawed, or beginning to thaw, and so we don't have enough time to ensure that all the water systems have been operating long enough and are tested, with the test results back." she noted.

It is recommended that you bring your own water if you are camping throughout the May long weekend.

Another thing Wihak says to consider, alcohol is not allowed in the parks for the May long weekend.

"In Saskatchewan provincial parks and recreation sites, and then I believe it's 27 regional parks in the province, have an alcohol ban on the May long weekend only."

She added the rule was brought in due to past incidents.

"It seemed to be a good drawing card for lots of high school kinds of end-of-year social events, and so caused quite a bit of problems as far as noise, and disturbances, and vandalism."
