Hot days are not the only concern for this week, an air quality statement was issued for Humboldt and area due to smoke in the atmosphere.

The wildfires in British Columba and Alberta are the cause for the smoke to be present in Saskatchewan.

The smoke will linger for the next few days and with the mix of the high-pressure system it will cause some difficulties for individuals to be outdoors.

Terry Lang, with Environment Canada, gave us some details,

"Certainly those who have breathing problems to start with those with COPD, asthma, that type of thing, or pre-existing health conditions, those people are at risk when the air quality decreases."

Ensure that if you are outside you limit your time in the sun and take breaks to cool off.

Some things to watch for, according to Environment Canada are:

  • Increased coughing
  • throat irritation
  • headaches
  • shortness of breath

The smoke will hopefully dissipate by the end of the week.
