The prime winter driving months are upon us and with that in mind, the Saskatchewan Safety Council is hosting Skid Smart Collision Avoidance courses in Humboldt.

The program takes one day to complete and will be in Humboldt from January 12th to the 23rd.

Course Instructor, Lee Carlson explained why they host the courses.

"Basically because many people don't have the understanding or the skills or even the ability to handle a vehicle in an emergency situation or difficult situation in adverse conditions."

The courses run from 8:30am to 4pm at Discovery Ford.

Carlson said they will be covering many topics in the courses, "we teach a lot of fundamental skills such as using your eyes effectively which many drivers do not do, they don't look in the right place at the right time. As far as handling the vehicle, the braking capabilities, how to use the brakes, when to use the brakes, how to hold the steering wheel, how to turn the steering wheel, where to steer."

The first part of the course is covered in the classroom in the morning and then the hands-on portion takes place in the afternoon.

You can get registered by calling the Saskatchewan Safety Council office at 306-757-3197.
