The Government of Saskatchewan has issued its latest construction update on highway work being done in the province.

Six projects are being worked on in the Humboldt area, including a pair north on Highway 20, as well as east on Highway 5.

Work on Highway 20 began in September, with a smaller project being done near Middle Lake that includes surface mixing and compaction from the town access point to St. Benedict. It is expected to conclude in October.

More extensive work is north of Humboldt, where a near three kilometre stretch will be raised around 1.5 metres. The province says it is required after water was nearing, and in some cases, exceeding the roadway.

That project has an estimated completion of Summer 2017.

Since June, Highway 5 has had construction crews tackling the roadway just past Carmel, where they are also raising the road due to water concerns.

After some delays, a tentative schedule has work being done sometime in October.

Additional work is being done on Highway 2 north of Wakaw, Highway 15 near Semans and Highway 16 outside of Clavet.

A stretch of 16.4 kilometres will be widened and paved on Highway 2 north of Wakaw, which will also include the installation of a culvert tunnel liner.

Traffic is down to one lane while work is being done. It will be complete in 2017.

Surfacing is being done on 15 kilometres of road west of Semans on Highway 15, until the intersection of Highway 20. It will wrap up in October or November.

The twinning project on Highway 16 is ongoing.

One of the major projects is ongoing near Clavet, where $25-million is being spent on the twinning of Highway 16. Work began in May and will conclude in 2017.

The province is reminding motorists to be cautious when travelling through work zones and to ensure speed is dropped to 60 kilometres per hour.
