A gathering of hungry parishioners descended on the hall at St. Andrews Anglican Church in Humboldt on March 5 for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper. The cooks were busy flipping and the assembled visited and enjoyed the traditional meal.

Former St. Andrew's priest and longtime resident Joanne Beacon welcomed the assembled at the entrance and explained the background of the event. "The word 'shrove' actually comes from the old English word 'shrive' meaning to repent and ask for forgiveness." She went on to suggest that some people take the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, as a cue to indulge a bit more in the 'good life' before the season of absolution.

No doubt that those gathered enjoyed a great meal in the company of good friends and family.
