Once again, distracted driving is the target for SGI throughout the month of February.

While many associate distracted driving with using a cell phone, Kelley Brinkworth, Manager of Media Relations with the crown insurer says there is more to it.

"Its not illegal to eat while you're driving or put on make-up, change your radio station," she stated. "If police see you doing that and they feel you are a hazard to other road users, they can give you a ticket for driving without due care and attention."

The effort to combat distracted drivers is an ongoing issue that continues to take lives.

"Its one of the top factors in fatal crashes in the province," noted Brinkworth. "It is a serious issue in the province and that is why we continue to raise awareness."

In 2014, 27 people were killed in collisions involving distracted drivers with over 700 more people injured.
