People in the Humboldt area are being advised to either stay inside or do their best to keep covered up over the weekend.

Sever cold temperatures are forecasted for Humboldt and area, making frost bite and ultimately Hypothermia very real possibilities.

Derek Dagenais is part of the Humboldt EMS.

He advises wearing lots of layers.

"One of the biggest things, as we all know from being from Saskatchewan is that we need to watch the Wind Chill, and protect ourselves from the wind as much as possible. Simple things like dressing in lots of layers that you can either build up your layers or take them down. Watch that exposed skin, that's where you're going to get your frost bite and you're going to get chilled in a hurry with the winds these cold days."

Dagenais says people hitting the roads this weekend should also be careful.

"Fortunately, when people do make calls into 9-1-1, we do have the ability if need be to track their location. Now, like any technology, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. So it's important for people to know what route they are taking and other people to know the route, and when they should be arriving, and if they don't arrive, somebody can start looking for them early."

Dagenais explains what could be in store for people with exposed skin in weather like this.

"Frost nip can set in [pretty quick with any exposed skin, if your face isn't covered, ear lobes, tip of your nose, finger tips, if you don't have a pair of gloves on, that sort of thing. That will lead into frost bite failry quickly, and obviously the ultimate is hypothermia if you're out for any period of time, or maybe a person involved in a slip-and-fall that can't get into their house."
