The court case for Normand Lavoie was to see a preliminary hearing begin on Tuesday.

Lavoie is charged with three counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm for an accident in May 2015 that left three teenagers dead and one man injured.

The three boys from Carrot River were stopped at a highway construction zone when Lavoie hit them from behind in the semi he was driving. The car driven by the teens then collided with a vehicle being driven by a construction worker, sending him to hospital.

The case has been referred for trial.
