Today marks the kick off of the second annual Big Brothers Big Sisters purse auction.

BBBS(Big Brothers Big Sisters) in Humboldt ran the auction last year with great success and brought it back again this year.

Development Coordinator, Jodie Hergott tells us about the idea for the auction.

"It's our second annual so it is a little new to us but there is not too many that happen. The idea actually came from an organization down east that does it and had a lot of success with it. We are finding that Humboldt has really embraced the idea and some of these purses are in really good condition and of course, with purses, one size fits all and it's an easy fit and you can never have too many purses."

There are 123 items ranging from purses to wallets and even a suitcase this year.

"We have been taking donations for the last few months of new and used purses, wallets, and we even have a suitcase this year. But these items are donated and anyone is welcome to come and bid for them. It's one of the little fundraisers we do."

Hergott wanted to note, "the more items they have up for bids, there is a great chance we will collect more cash with more items."

Local retailers donated new items to the cause as well: Treehouse Treasures, Designer Styles, Brickhouse Clothing, Cottage Boutique, and Direct Surplus. With three of the businesses adding a little something extra inside the purse/wallet. Humboldt Sobeys and Humboldt Coop have had some of the purses on display in their stores along with the window front of the old 6th Ave. Stylist building.

Jodie hopes that many people will get out there and start bidding.

Bidding closes at November 26th at 8:59pm.
