Businesses across Saskatchewan, including here in Humboldt, receive their product from semi trailers driven by truckers.

Those truckers were celebated this week for the work they do as Provincial Truckers Week was held in the Province.

Dave Doepker is the Owner and Manager of Humboldt Sobeys.

He talks about the importance of Truckers to his company.

"Truckers play a very important role in how our business operates. Without truvcks bringing the product to our store, we wouldn't have anything on our shelves. A lot of product comes from out of Province, we get a lot of fresh produce coming up from the States, and it's all travelling via truck, so a very very important part of our business."

Doepker decribes the tasking job truck drivers have.

"I think they run some pretty long hours. I know the guys we got bringing our product to us come in from Winnipeg, they're driving about 8 hours and then they got to pull over and sleep and then head back and stuff. It's a pretty tough lifestyle but I think most of them are suited to it and enjoy it."

Seeing as truckers across the Province were celebrated, Doepker reflected on the impact truckers have on the Province.

"There are so many goods that are transported on our highways via the trucks that play an important part. If the trucks weren't moving, I think our economy would ground to a halt."

Much of the economies exporting activity is done by Saskatchewan Truckers, as over $32 billion worth of Saskatchewan goods were exported in 2015.
