The First Westminster Scout Troop canvassed Humboldt on January 4 in an effort to collect all those holiday empty bottles and cans. The bottle drive raised $1900 for the Scouts and Venturers of Humboldt with the dollars raised helping the troops to travel to a major event.

The Atlantic Jamboree will take place from July 11 to 18 at Camp Nedooae which is about an hour away from Halifax. The camp was the site of the Canadian Jamboree three years ago.

Long-time Scout Leader Lorna Strome explains the itinerary, “The kids will go there for a week, and they participate in a bunch of different activities. When we were out there, we did a lot of stuff on the water. Being from Saskatchewan, how often will the kids get to do that? The activities are most often unique to the area.”

While the Scouts made an effort to cover the entire city, they acknowledge they may have missed areas. They invite anyone who wants to contribute to the cause to contact them through the First Westminster Scouts’ Facebook page or use the Humboldt Sarcan’s “Drop and Go” service with the drop code “Scouts” on the deposit.
