SaskEnergy will have crews in the City of Humboldt for the next couple months performing upgrades on their infrastructure.

The work will involve about 100 customers in an eight block radius downtown.

Senior Communications Officer Casey McLeod explains that with the above average precipitation the city has seen Humboldt has been identified as an area that needs addressed.

"As this moisture works down through the soil and gets to the level of the soil where our infrastructure is with the heavier soil types it creates a lot more ground shifting and that can put some stress on our infrastructure. Each year we try to go into areas that we have proactively identified as having these situations."

"Earlier in the year Humboldt did have some underground leaks that we found," McLeod continued. "We did an extensive leak survey of the area we did find some more very microscopic leaks. That indicated to us that the moisture level getting down to the level of our infrastructure and so we proactively scheduled these service tee upgrades."

McLeod adds that a small amount of customers will be effected for about half a day through out the process.

"After the work is done we just make arrangements with the home owner to have one of our trained technicians come to the home and just ensure that any pilot lights whether it's on the furnace or the water heater, any natural gas appliances have had their pilot lights safely re-lit by our technicians and that everything is good to go."

McLeod couldn't say when exactly the work would be complete but she did say they usually like to be done by November.

The crown corporation gas provider says they have had about 1,800 services tees repaired this year alone.
