Over the course of the past two decades, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation has been turning weapons into wildlife with their Guns for Habitat Program, and are accepting applications for another year.

Firearm owners have a prime opportunity to contribute to preserving wildlife areas within our province, as the Guns For Habitat Program allows residents to donate un-used guns that will get sold or donated. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of, as well as betterment of wildlife areas around Saskatchewan.

The program, over it's 20-year course has raised over $80,000.00 to put towards wildlife area conservation. For all donors, a tax-deductible receipt is issued, and all non-functioning firearms can be donated towards safety instruction. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation does make arrangements for pick-up of firearms anywhere within the province.

Darren Newberry with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation gave us some insight into the details of the program.

"It gives firearm owners a good outlet to dispose of unwanted or unneeded guns, and benefit the environment in the province we all live in. It makes sure all firearms are put to good use and stay out of wrong hands."

If you have any unwanted firearms and wish to donate them to preserve wildlife within Saskatchewan, call the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation at 1-306-692-8812, or email Darren at dlnewberry@swf.sk.ca
