Throughout January, there were 5,200 more people working in Saskatchewan compared to January 2015.

With an employment growth of 0.9 per cent, that ranks the province third highest in Canada.

The unemployment rate in January was 5.6 per cent which was once again the lowest unemployment rate in Canada, and well below the national average of 7.2 per cent.

Saskatchewan has led the country for the lowest unemployment rate for 27 of the last 28 months.

"Saskatchewan has still managed to maintain the lowest unemployment rate for a considerable time - due in large part to our strong, diverse economy," noted Jobs Minister Jeremy Harrison.

"We are seeing many employers still looking for workers, including K+S Potash who are looking to fill 100 jobs in various positions as they complete the Legacy mine project at Bethune."

The province is also seeing the lowest unemployment rate among youth, with only 10.7 per cent of youth not working in Saskatchewan. The national average is 13 per cent.
