In advance of more details from the province, the Saskatchewan Medical Association is speaking up about cannabis regulations.

The SMA says they want to see a legal age of 21 for the purchase of cannabis.

The province has only said that it will be sold privately and that other aspects of the legislation are still being reviewed.

A preferred legal age of 25 is what the SMA would like to see, but they add that the understanding is to try and weed out illegal sales of marijuana.

For provinces who have announced their own legislation thus far, seven are using 19 as the age for purchase, while Alberta and Quebec have elected for 18 years of age.
