The Humboldt SPCA had a unique way of raising money for their new shelter.

Between 1:00 and 3:30 Saturday afternoon, you could bring your pet to the mall, and get a picture with Santa.

All the while, a bake sale was running in order to raise money.

Kathleen Forster is the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Humboldt SPCA.

She talks about where the idea came from.

"I honestly think it came from our manager, Wanda Price at the Shelter, because pets are a member of your family and should be included in things like this. The Mall so generously allowed us to come in with pets."

The SPCA is still trying to fund-raise enough money to build a shelter of their own.

Price describes how close they are to their goal.

"We're about 65% towards our goal at or starting point. That would give us enough funds to put our building up and then keep raising funds to finish all the extra equipment we would need in there."

Forster says the fundraising never stops.

"We're always fundraising. We hope to bring in a Paint Night this January of February, and we always have raffles, draws, going on, just everything that we can do. Yes, donations are always welcome."
