With the help of a lot of friends, Safe Communities Humboldt and Area is filling young minds with thoughts about safety.

Under the umbrella organization of Progressive Agriculture Safety Days, the local institution set up shop in Lake Lenore Wednesday with kids from grades 1-5 taking in a number of presentations.

"Well definitely one of our focuses is youth safety and farm safety," explained Safe Communities Executive Director Shari Hinz during the event. "This is our 8th annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day and essentially it's an opportunity to provide our elementary school students with information on how to be safe, not only on the farm but at home as well."

They had presenters from Humboldt and District Ambulance Service, Canadian Red Cross, Humboldt Fire Department, Hergott Farm Equipment, Animal Health Clinic of Humboldt, Prairieland Motorsports, Humboldt Pharmasave and Saskatchewan Government Insurance.

Hinz says they covered a wide array of topics.

"Ranging from ag equipment and grain safety, poison and chemical safety, water and ice safety, recreation and helmet safety, 911 home safety, fire safety, animal safety, just to give you an example. Just a real variety of topics."

The program has been going for 20 years now, across Canada 1.5 million kids have been through the program. For Safe Communities Humboldt and Area they move the event every year, last year it was at the Humboldt Public School.

Hinz adds they did have some issues due to the weather but overall the event was another success.

"Our ag equipment and grain safety and our recreation and helmet safety presenters are usually outdoors but given the weather conditions today unfortunately we were not able to have them outdoors, they moved inside. We had a couple presenters a little bit late traveling on the roads and one of our schools wasn't able to participate today due to the road conditions."

Schools that were scheduled to participate this year were Annaheim, Three Lakes, and Bruno as well as the hosts.
