The City of Humboldt has once again thrown their support behind Safe Communities Humboldt and Area with some core funding.

$10,000 was provided towards the group Monday.

Executive Director Shari Hinz explains that the city's support is crucial to their programming.

"I just really want to thank them for that contribution, it definitely allows us to continue to offer a variety within the region."

Council normally agrees every year at budget time to fund the group's work, the dollar amount is customarily around the $10,000 mark.

Hinz added that the City's support goes beyond their bank account.

"They support us in many other ways as well, an example over the weekend with the bike rodeo, converting the cabaret space over to our bike rodeo space in the matter of an evening and into the morning is awesome. I really want to recognize that support, they are definitely role models for other communities in the region."

Other main initiatives they present every year is the PARTY program, their student agricultural safety days and continued work with rail safety with CN.

Safe Communities Humboldt and Area put on an expanded bike rodeo Saturday at the Sizzler with help from numerous organizations and BHP Billiton.
