A free child restraint safety inspection is open to the public on Friday at the Watson school.

Safe Communities Humboldt and Area Executive Director Shari Hinz said all parents and caregivers are encouraged to come to the clinic.

"There's so many factors that go into assessing whether or not a child is in the correct seat and can be in fact changed to different positioning within the vehicle so that's a great reason for people to come and make sure that they have their child in the right seat and have it inspected and installed properly."

Sometimes expiration dates are often overlooked by parents so they will find out when their seats expire or if they might already be expired.

Technicians will also go over when the proper time is to switch babies from backwards facing to front facing, and from a five-point harness to booster seat.

Hinz said parents might be surprised at some of the information they will have on hand, "we have a list of car seat recalls, so technicians will be cross referencing the make, model, and the serial number of the seats that are being inspected with the recall listing."

If any car seats happen to have been recalled they can identify those at the clinic.

Safe Communities is doing the clinic in conjunction with the Watson RescU 9-11 day.

The clinic runs from 12:30-3pm.
