May 11th, 2013 the community of LeRoy witnessed the demise of their half century old arena, Saturday they will cut the ribbon inside their brand new $5.7 million community centre.

From the day the rink did go up in flames the closely knit east-central Saskatchewan town and their residents would not be tripped up in their attempt to score a new opportunity.

Thousands of hours of work from likely hundreds of both volunteers and paid contractors will all culminate with a celebration of a life time for those somehow touched by the turn of events.

Bryce Moore has been along for the entire journey as a born and raised LeRoy product.

"Everybody is extremely excited and very proud of what we have put up in town here," he said Wednesday night as the preparations continue for the day long list of events.

"We've had great support from the surrounding area, we've had teams from all over coming to use the ice. It's a good problem to have but it's almost hard to get ice in town, it's booked solid," he laughed.

"It's really nice to see."

The day begins with an initiation skate with their parents at eight o'clock, a pancake breakfast also begins at 8am. Minor hockey continues until 4pm. A LeRoy Braves alumni game will take place. Any former Braves looking to get involved can call Craig Reinhardt at 306-290-7585.

The 2016-17 edition of the Long Lake Hockey League club will host the Lanigan Pirates at 8:30 to open their season.

A supper will go from 6pm-7pm with the ribbon cutting around seven. Moore wants to extend the invitation to the entire region to join them.

"We're prepared for a big crowd so anybody that wants to come out and see the new facility, we have had quite a bit of hockey already so some people may have been through but we've got a few things added on. Some decorations, banners, those types of things put up recently so come out and see the facility that's here and what people have worked so hard to put up."
