Thanks to a long list on donations from corporations and organizations the Rural Municipality of St. Peter's volunteer fire department has new suits.

"We put out a couple feelers," explained deputy fire chief Steve Patton. "I actually applied for a grant through Pioneer Seeds and once we got that it kind of started the ball rolling. We did some corporate fundraising, we had some of our own funds that we raised a few years back. We put it all together and it seemed to work out well."

Talks among the group began in October knowing that their current suits were at the end of their lifespan.

"They were 25 years plus old, some guys remember buying them when they first started," Patton continued.

"They were really dirty, they wouldn't come clean anymore, a lot of the older, long term guys said they were shrinking," Patton laughed.

The department received their new gear last week, they came with a price tag of $14,000. They also raised an additional $2,500 to purchase new helmets.

"We were fortunate enough to get the suits, we reached our goal to get the suits. We also did start to replace the helmets we used and we're almost at the end of that fundraising too."

The department has nine core members and works in partnership with the Village of Annaheim.
