As kids bust out the door on Tuesday morning and charge for school, extra care and attention may be required on Humboldt's roads.

School zones are back in effect as of 8:00am.

"For some youngsters it might be their first experience, so please consider that and slow down and give them proper time to cross the street safely," noted CAA's Christine Niemczyk.

For years, CAA has provided another part of road safety near schools, which is the school-appointed crossing guards that help students across the road each day.

In Humboldt, the posted speed limit in school zones is 30 kilometres per hour, which is observed on school days from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Awareness doesn't belong on just the streets, however, as kids will also be running off of school buses.

"If there is a red signal light flashing, you must stop 20 metres away and only proceed once the lights are stopped," stated the City of Humboldt.

Safety is a two-way street, and CAA added tips for students to ensure they do their own part.

"Never run out into traffic, or between parked cars, buses or buildings. Pay attention and learn to walk across the street or a busy intersection and at an intersection where there is lights so you can learn when it is appropriate or not to cross."

Humboldt's school zone reduction areas are outside of Humboldt Public School, as well as St. Augustine and St. Dominic Schools.
