After an extremely successful 'walk a mile in her shoes' event one year ago, PARTNERS Family Services in Humboldt is going to hold the event once again.

This year the walk will take place on Thursday, June 9th.

Executive Director Hayley Kennedy said they had to have a second run at the fund and awareness raising event after the inaugural one was such a great success.

"We were really fortunate to have such an incredible outpouring of support from the community last year with about 130 walkers. The walk a mile in her shoes event is the event that we use to fund the programs that do directly in the community."

PARTNERS serves 42 centres within a 100 kilometre range of Humboldt. The funding that does come in will help immensely, but Kennedy says there's just something about a large group of mostly men walking in high heeled shoes that does so much more.

"It's a fun event that allows people to engage in what's sometimes a difficult conversation so for us it's also about awareness. We were so grateful that the city recognized the month of November as 'family violence awareness month' and we want to build on the momentum that started in the Winter."

"It gives us a chance to continue that conversation in a way that's family friendly, that's non-threatening or intimidating" Kennedy continued. "It allows us to get that message out into the community."

Registration forms are available at the PARTNERS office on 5th Avenue. You can also call 682-4135 for more information or visit their website.
