The Punnichy RCMP Detachment had an interesting call a few weeks ago to rescue a fawn that was alone after its mother was struck and killed by a car.

The fawn who was suspected to be only a few weeks old was named, Bambi.

Constable Rumple talks about how friendly the fawn was, "the fawn was found and he was orphaned. He was extremely dehydrated and hungry. He was ravenous and friendly, he was about a week or two old. He didn't have that natural fear of humans or other animals, he walked right up to us and we could pet it and all that fun stuff that you wish you could do with a wild animal."

The RCMP members transported the fawn to the detachment and kept it in a cell overnight with blankets and such to make a nesting area. Then the next morning a member from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Moose Jaw came to pick him up.
The fawn had an injured hoof so they had surgery done on it and then the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center worked on reducing the needed human interaction.

Last the RCMP heard the fawn was released into the wild and was doing well.
