After this year’s Auto Fund rebate windfall, drivers could see an additional 1.3 percent average reduction in insurance rates.

The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel has recommended a decrease in rates as opposed to the revenue neutral rate change proposal forwarded by the Saskatchewan Auto Fund. The original SAF proposal promoted a rate increase of 1.7 percent on insurance to be balanced with a 1.6 percent decrease in the capital margin for vehicles. However the Panel countered with a recommended adjustment to those figures that would balance out to the 1.3 percent overall rate reduction.

The panel also recommended committee processes to address specific issues facing taxi operators and the province’s motorcycle community.

The actual savings a vehicle owner will see are dependent on various factors including vehicle classes.
