A rainfall warning is in place for central and southern Saskatchewan, including most of the Humboldt area.

The warning was issued at 7:36am Monday, and notes that rainfall totals could reach between 50 and 70 millimetres throughout the day.

"An intense low pressure system over eastern Saskatchewan is wrapping warm moist air in from the southeast and cold air from the northwest," Environment Canada states. "A band of heavy showers has developed from Swift Current to Humboldt. With embedded thunderstorms occurring along this band, there will be locally heavier downpours."

Humboldt is on the edge of the system, so rainfall amounts will likely not reach that of those southwest of the city.

A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of southwestern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta.

Conditions are expected to lighten on Tuesday morning, with sunshine and warmer temperatures moving in closer to the weekend.
