Having to lose a family pet is never easy, but at times it is preventable.

A recent case of a dog with rabies in Regina has people talking.

Dr. Kim owner and veterinarian at the Animal Health Clinic in Humboldt tells us why vaccinating our pets is important.

"All mammals can get rabies: dogs, cats, cattle, horses, humans. Remember that rabies is not curable the only thing we can do is prevent it by vaccinations."

Rabies is very much a real thing and there have been 18 confirmed cases in Saskatchewan in the last year.

Rabies is preventable as long as you vaccinate against the disease, but vaccinate properly is the key.

Dr. Kim mentioned that each clinic has a different protocol for rabies vaccination and to check with your clinic to ensure your pet is up today.
