Eight teachers from Horizon School Division were honoured with Recognition Awards for excellence in athletics.

Horizon Central Athletic Association held its annual spring meeting on April 10th where the eight teachers from the surrounding area were bestowed with their 2019 HCAA Recognition Award plaques.

Dylan Trollope was one of the teachers/coaches recognized. Trollope is employed at Punnichy Elementary and has been coaching there for the last two years.

"It was pretty special to get that recognition. I know all of the teachers I got recognized with put in a lot of hard work, and are very deserving as well. It was a nice surprise to receive the award."

Before joining Punnichy Elementary, Dylan Trollope worked in Raymore School where he coached cross country, junior football, curling, and badminton. Since arriving at Punnichy Elementary two years ago, he has coached cross country, badminton, and track and field.  He has also stepped into the athletic director role at Punnichy Elementary this year and helped to create a boys and girls volleyball team.

"They previously had the program years ago, but since I got here, this is the first year we have revamped the volleyball program and brought it back in."

Talent can only take an individual so far. Great teachers, coaches and mentors are also instrumental to student-athletes' success, and Punnichy looks to be in good hands with Trollope at the helm.
