The Original Humboldt Site is being invaded by archaeologists this week.

Jean Price gives us some more information about the Humboldt Dig.

"We are digging in the area of the original telegraph station. That was the house where the Weldon's lived in when they were living here at Original Humboldt."

Price goes on to explain more about what they are doing.

"We're just looking for evidence of their lives here. What we find is a lot of things they left behind. Pieces of pottery, nails, glass, and bits of metal. It gives us an idea of what their life was like while they were living here, what they had access to, and what they were doing."

The Dig is put on through the Department of Cultural Services for the City of Humboldt, and working in partnership with the Saskatchewan Archaeology Society, and Western Heritage.

Price also explains how digging at the Original Humboldt site helps give them a different perspective on Humboldt's History.

"We have a lot of historical records about the Weldon's and their time at Original Humboldt. We also have a lot of records about the military presence at Original Humboldt. But Archaeology gives us a much different perspective on things. It's more of a first-person narrative. We got to actually see the things that the people who were here had."

Some of the items that have already been dug up include bone fragments, nails, tin cans, bullet casing, glass, and ceramic.

Price also mentions that if anyone is interested in taking part, they can call the Humboldt Museum or Visit the Original Humboldt Site sometime this week. They will be digging until Friday.
