The provincial government is going back on their grants-in-lieu cuts to municipalities - slightly.

On Friday, it was announced that the reduction will now be capped at 30 percent, allowing nine cities to retain some of the funding that was to be lost.

One of those communities is the City of Humboldt.

When it was first announced, the city was scheduled to lose 43.16% - or $477,319 - of their revenue sharing due to the program cuts.

Now, with the 30% cap, the city will see that number reduced to $331,791 - or a difference of $145,528.

"After discussions with SUMA, we felt that it was too much of a burden to put on those municipalities, so we are capping the reduction to ensure that no municipality will see a reduction of more than 30 percent of their revenue sharing amount," stated Government Relations Minister and Humboldt-Watrous MLA Donna Harpauer.

Most communities were slated to lose 15 or less percent of their funding through the grants-in-lieu slash.

Other cities involved in the updated reduction are Estevan, Melfort, Melville, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Prince Albert, Weyburn and Yorkton.
