Winston High School in Watrous played host to over 100 athletes on Sunday, as Team Prairie Central got together for a pep rally.

The rally is a way to bring athletes together ahead of the games and show off their abilities, says Chef de Mission Stephanie Cuddington.

"To showcase the athleticism of those who have made the team, and to show some highlights from how they qualified for their sports as well."

She says it's a chance to display the variety of communities the athletes from the district come from.

"It's also a good way to showcase the players, coaches, and managers and the towns that they are from."

The games, which rotate between winter and summer every two years, bring together thousands of athletes across many sports, says Cuddington.

"For most of them it is a mini-Olympics, because it is a provincial showcase of multi-sport that happens in the province every two years."

The most recent games were in 2016 in Estevan during the summer. Lloydminster will host the 2020 version, also a summer format.

Humboldt played host to the 2002 Winter Games.

This year's games are in North Battleford from February 18-24.
