A pregnant moose that was shot dead has led to charges against a Rosthern area man.

The incident took place on private land near Alvena - approximately 20 kilometres west of Cudworth.

Glen Paintednose, a 47-year-old from the One Arrow First Nation pleaded guilty to unlawful hunting and waste of edible game under the Saskatchewan Wildlife Act.

In addition to the fine of $4,998, his rifle had to be handed over.

In April, conservation officers received information through the Turn in Poachers line. After examining the scene, they discovered that the calf was also dead, lying beside the mother.
