If you're not a fan of cold weather and snow, than this winter has been one for you.

The mild conditions this year have been caused by El Nino according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Terri Laing, "the link with El Nino and precipitation is not as strong, usually we might see some drier conditions but that's not necessarily the case across the prairies, we've seen some pockets of snow this year so that's just sort of where the strom tracks have taken them but the pattern that we've seen this year is quite consistent with El Nino."

The mild conditions we have seen for the majority of this winter look like they will be sticking around.

"We've talked about the El Nino, that it is one of the strongest ones that has been seen in a number of years and that was talked about as it was seen building in the fall and throughout winter and that's certainly been the case so far this season. It gives generally above normal temperatures for most of the prairies and we've certainly seen that, we haven't seen many arctic outbreaks," explained Laing.

The forecast this week is calling for temperatures on the plus side of the thermometer with plus 1 expected for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Snow and rain are expected to accompany the warm temperatures which could make for some complicated road conditions.
