The early planning process for a field house and theatre facility to be added to the Uniplex in Humboldt is continuing.

Wednesday night the City as well as the consultants looking after the design held an open house to discuss the matter with attendees.

"We're at information gathering and an idea generation stage," explained Principal Architect with P3A, James Youck. "At this level we are looking for public feedback and commentary on the direction the project is going so we can feed that back up to your city council so they can make some informed decisions on the ultimate direction the project will take into the future."

The facility could have a number of facets including a soccer pitch, multi purpose floor space for trade shows or competitions plus a 300 to 400 seat theatre.

Youck talks about the public feedback they have and are continuing to collect.

"We had idea boards and things like that up and we encouraged people to provide feedback primarily on what we call hopes, desires, dreams, their fears for the project. What excited them about the opportunity and what made them really worried, what would keep them up at night about the project."

"How will we pay for this of course," Youck answered. "Which is always one of the first questions that people ask whenever you are doing any sort of civic project like this. That was probably the only one we heard. I think part of that is because we find there is a real culture of engagement on behalf of the community here."

Youck says if all goes well it could be open in three to four years. The facility is expected to serve the community for at least half a century.
