Progress continues at Water Ridge Park on the new pickle ball court and playground site. On Wednesday, July 21, local volunteers were on the court laying down another coat of specialized paint on the surface. Project Chair Breanna Landry was part of the work crew, along with Darryl Knackstedt and a host of savvy brush wielding volunteers.

“There will eventually be four coats of paint and two coats of sealer,” explained Knackstedt who was busy applying a blue coat designating in play areas. The specialized Sports Master non-slip paint with an abrasive integrated into the mix was being “squigeed” on in a free-flow manner.

The hope is that the court will be open within the next few weeks once the lighting is installed.

Meanwhile, the turf was being cleared for the installation of the new playground equipment which will start next week. One Stop Playgrounds of Humboldt will be on site for a couple weeks working on the project and base.

“The two projects will probably be done at about the same time,” suggests Landry.

The Grand Opening is slated for August 27 with Humboldt Co-op on hand for a barbecue and a host of other side events to be announced in the coming weeks.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in North America, says Knackstedt, and residents of Humboldt who haven’t yet invested in a racquet will soon get another chance to see why.
