Hockey players in Humboldt do various volunteer work throughout the year.

On December 4th, at the Community Gathering Place, the Peewee AA Broncos gave back some of their time at the Humboldt Soup Kitchen.

The bottle drive put on by the team generated enough funds to purchase groceries to cook for approximately 100 people. At 3:30 PM, the boys prepared, cooked, and served a meal consisting of fruit, pasta with meat sauce, garlic toast. After the meal, the team cleaned the dishes and the venue.

Also purchased with the bottle drive funds were a number of toiletry supplies including shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant etc. as well as mitts, socks, and toques to name just a few items – each patron that enjoyed the meal left with three items per person and also a take-out container of food. The proceeds from the bottle drive all went right back into the soup kitchen.

"It was a very rewarding experience to be a part of and was great to see the kids having so much fun with it and also feeling that sense caring for others," said Maury Simoneau head coach of the team.

"Having done something similar the last few years with other hockey teams, these experiences for young people are truly valuable and give them a sense of pride and ownership that they too can do well for others."

The team is working towards the Good Deads Cup.
