Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan has been fined $280,000 for their role in the death of a worker.

In a Saskatoon court room Wednesday they received the fine for a violation of occupational health and safety legislation.

PotashCorp pleaded guilty to contravening section 34 of The Mines Regulations, 2003 for failing to take effective steps to control the movement of strata in all underground excavations to protect the health and safety of workers according to a news release issued by the Saskatchewan Government.

The charge was laid after a man was killed at the Cory Mine after being hit by a piece of falling ground.
