For years, the Wynyard Bears football program has been teaming up to host a tackle hunger game, where non-perishable food items and cash are collected and donated to the Wynyard Food Bank.

That continuing support took place once again on Saturday, October 21, as the Bears hosted Assiniboia in a league playoff game.

Fans attending the game in Wynyard were asked to bring a non-perishable food item. They would then receive half off their admission for the game.

"All money collected from donors was then donated to the food bank so that supplementary goods could be purchased to help top off food baskets," stated Coach Morris Sokul.

He added that a total of $300 was brought in at the gate, along with 733 pounds of food.

"What a great way for students to learn about the food bank service and be actively engaged to give back to the community that sponsors all the events that occur at the school," Sokul said.

The Wynyard Food Bank provides approximately 75 food baskets to those in need on a monthly basis.

Wynyard won the football game 71-64. Click here for the game recap.
