For two months, amateur photographers submitted their best photos to the City of Humboldt in the annual Our Humboldt Photo Contest.

In May, the city made the call out to residents to capture Humboldt's detail in stills.

Community Development Coordinator Colby McClelland says that while there was a dip in entries, they were quite pleased with the results.

"It's awesome that the beauty of Humboldt is displayed through the eyes of the residents," he explained. "We didn't receive as many entries this year, but it was definitely for quality over quantity."

In judging the photos, McClelland was joined by members of the Humboldt & District Gallery to look over the works of art.

"We got together and looked at all the photos. We then picked our top ten, and from that, our top three," he said. "They were based on the Our Humboldt values and how they represent our community."

The first place finisher was Brad Kocourek, with his photo of haying at sunset. In second place was Michelle LaFayette's photo of history today.

Taking third place was Brenda Reifferscheid and her back in time photo.

McClelland says that there is incentive for not only the top three but the top ten as well.

"The top three are printed and framed and given back to the photographers. Those in the top ten have their photos on display in the gallery."

The exhibit opened on Thursday and will continue until September 29.
