The 5th anniversary of the Humboldt and District Gallery will kick off 2019 with the unveiling of a new exhibit.

The event will start at 7:00 PM on January 10th at the Humboldt and District Gallery with a multi-purpose reception celebrating the 5th anniversary, as well as the opening of "ordinary journey with 4", an exhibit by Shona J. Dietz.

The artist from Saskatoon will be in attendance to launch her exhibit in Humboldt.

"She's a multimedia artist. She works with traditional methods, so paintings, drawings, sculptures, but also with sound. She is giving an artist talk at the event. The exhibition is such a personal one it will be really cool to hear her perspective on all of these works too, and I bet she has some great stories considering she's been working on this exhibit for the last 20 years," said Cathrine Harrison with the Humboldt and District Gallery.

The centrepiece of the exhibit is a 25' wide quilt made of tea bags stitched together. These tea bags have been consumed and the conversations the artist has had with people while having the tea is immersed in the multimedia aspect of the exhibit.

"She mixes all the artistry together. These tea bags have been brewed and people have consumed that pot of tea over a good conversation. Each of those stories has been incorporated into this quilt which is also 20 years old, so she's been working on this project for 20 years. It's different and it's cool and it's got so many stories wrapped up in it that it's quite something to see. You can put on the headphones, listen to the stories, look at the quilt, it's really neat, it's got the multimedia aspect to it."

Along with the opening of "ordinary journey with 4" will be the celebration of the 5th year anniversary of the gallery.

"The fact that we have been a successful gallery for the past five years is really thanks to the community and thanks to the support that we get from everyone in Humboldt."

"ordinary journey with 4" by Shona J Dietz will grace the gallery until February 23rd.
