The demolition of an old building could make more room for business in Humboldt.

The old Shell Gas Bar was torn down last week on the North West corner of 8th Avenue and 14th Street. The property of the demolition is privately owned by a local resident. He approached a contractor to carry through with the demolition.

That resident made a request to the City of Humboldt to go ahead with the demolition and was approved administratively. Since it is private property, the owner will decide what to do with the land.

"We hope that whatever redevelopment does occur, it fits with the neighbourhood and certainly it appears it's a good property and a visible property for some sort of redevelopment," said Joe Day, Humboldt's City Manager on the possibility of a new building being erected on the property.

If the owner wishes to have any redevelopment take place he will work with the City of Humboldt to make it possible.
