Humboldt can expect a Goldilocks-type summer thanks to its location in the middle of the Prairies, according to the long-range forecast from The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

“To the east of you, we’re looking at it to be a little bit warmer and a little bit drier. To the west of you, we’re looking at it to be a little bit cooler and a little bit rainier,” spokesman Jack Burnett said.

“So you’re right in the middle, so to me that says it’s going to be an average type summer with good temperatures, no drought or anything to worry about as far as crops go - or in the other direction, not a super amount of rain. It looks like a great summer to me.”

August will see a bit more rain than normal, but that will be balanced out by slightly less in September, he said.

“I think September and October, particular September, the harvest is going to be fine. I don’t see any problems coming up for that for your part of the Prairies.”

The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecast is based on a 226-year-old formula developed by Robert B. Thomas, which incorporates long-range weather trends, local weather factors and the effects of the sun.
