November is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and the RCMP are hoping to make the public more aware of how to recognize the signs and help eliminate domestic violence.

Domestic Violence is an issue of utmost importance and continues to persist in communities small and large. Typically, it occurs within the home and can happen at any time, especially when alcohol or drugs are a factor. Sgt. Lisa Molle with the Fond Du Lac RCMP, tells us that the issue of domestic violence has a wide range of effect. "It can affect anybody inside the home, children, elders, and it's something that we've come across, it has not been typically isolated to one type of incident or person." Molle continued

She notes that domestic violence has a wide range of effect, and can happen at any time. She also talked about the important role Victims Services play in situations of domestic violence. "Victim Services is an essential part of this process because most people have a fear of coming and speaking with the police." Molle continued "Victims Services is the agency that works very closely with the local police and can explain a lot of the investigational steps that are in place that the police officer may not have time to sit down and explain."

Victims services are available for anyone going through situations of domestic violence. If you or someone you know is needing assistance with domestic violence, you can talk to Victims services, or contact any local RCMP detachment.

Domestic Violence is a very pressing issue in many Saskatchewan communities and, and awareness is key in future prevention.
