Silver Ridge Heights is the latest senior housing building in the City of Humboldt.

Standing alone in the northwest end of the city is the new development, which will soon offer assisted living for seniors.

Susan Yakabowich, the property manager for Silver Ridge, says that they found a need to bring the project to the community.

"We built here because we believe there is a need for mid to upscale housing for the senior population and we believe that keeping them within our community is a gift for them," she explained. "As well, we feel we meet the needs of what we have to offer."

Yakabowich says that they conduct a feasibility report prior to making the build to ensure that the need is there.

Now that the building is officially open and tenants are moving in, Yakabowich says they are hoping to introduce the assisted living program.

"Basically, we have two packages. We have our golden package that offers meals, laundry, housekeeping, as well as transportation and medical alert," she noted. "We have a lesser package, the silver package, that offers daily housekeeping and meals."

As of Thursday, when the grand opening celebration took place, there were ten of 24 units filled.

Yakabowich adds that they are looking at bringing in entertainment and other community members to keep the atmosphere fun in the building.

She notes that residents who are already living there have great things to say.

"They have had the best experience here. Speaking with the tenants, you can see the happy looks on their faces. Making the move is hard, but once they get settled, they are happy to be here," she said. "Many of the comments from the tenants is that it is like family here. It is a community within a community."

Once they fill all the units, the group will be looking into additional phases to their plans.
