Kids in Bruno and their families are thrilled to have a brand new playground in the Town of Bruno.

The official unveiling of Father Joe Park was done on Thursday afternoon with members of the community invited to participate.

Mayor Dale Glessman says that they had a contest throughout the summer where kids could submit names for the new park.

"Father Joe has had a big influence on the community. No matter where he goes, all the kids know him," explained Glessman on why Father Joe Park was the perfect name. "He's been the minister here for quite a few years."

Glessman says that the winning submission was made by 13-year-old Eowyn Riley. She was invited to help reveal the brand new sign and had no idea that her submission was the winning name.

Father Joe, too, was caught off guard.

"A real surprise, and a blessing, I'll tell you, that's from the bottom of my heart," he said.

Riley says that when she was trying to think of a name, Father Joe was the perfect fit.

"For everyone, he has just been here for so long. To me, when I think of Bruno, that's who I think of," she noted. "He's a very fun loving guy, who always wants other people to enjoy themselves."

Glessman agreed, noting Joe's compassion in the community.

"Outgoing, very strong, will talk to anybody, anywhere."

The playground, which still has some minor touch-ups left, has been a big hit with parents as well. Heidi Riley has six kids, adding that they spend plenty of time at the park.

"It's been a really good place for the kids to play. We're just across the track, so they tend to congregate here. They say it's good for playing don't touch the ground tag."

She added that the not having to touch the ground to move around on the equipment factor seems to be a big hit with the kids.
