The late February warm up brings the highways construction season a bit closer to its seasonal startup. It will be a couple months before contractors are back moving earth, but the provincial government has the funds in place to begin a new series of projects. One of those will see passing lanes added to a busy stretch of the Yellowhead Highway from Clavet to Viscount.

Last May, the government provided an additional $300 million dollars for a host of highway and road construction projects. The dollars are part of the provincial $2 billion stimulus package in ensuring that workers in Saskatchewan are engaged.

“Our government is stepping up to support the Saskatchewan economy as we make our way through this pandemic,” Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw said.  “With the lowest unemployment rate in Canada we know our plan is working, and we're just getting started.”

Highway 5 construction will be set to resume in the spring with the segment from the Highway 2 junction to the Old 27 Road seeing widening and passing lanes.

Another eight construction projects are in the tendering process with another four being tendered later this year.
