A third-generation farm is planted just past the Carlton Trail Ski Club, west of Humboldt.

Shaun and Shaunna Schmidt are just getting things ramped up in their farming lives.

"This is our third year. We started out three years ago with 300 acres. Turned it into 600 acres last year, and now up to 1,000. Hopefully, someday we can make it our living and strictly farm."

Shaun says that in the future they hope to bring in cattle, as there is room at the farm, but for the time being, they just run through crops.

With the 1,000 acres, he says that they mostly plant wheat, but also put in canola and barley.

Recent rain has put a slight halt to work in the field in some areas, but overall, Schmidt says that they have been moving along well.

"Harvest has been unreal so far this year. We lucked out about two days ago and got the wheat off before the rain," he noted. "We have had lots of family coming out to help which is good, and the weather has been great."

The Schmidt's were the fourth winners of Meal in the Field. There is one more meal to be drawn on Tuesday, September 19. Submit your operation here!
